Hello, hello, Hammerfans! This week sees the start of Fall, with the Atumnal Equinox occurring this Friday, September 22nd, at 3:02pm. Astronomically-speaking, what that means is that the earth’s equator passes our orbit’s center alignment with the sun, causing there to be roughly the same amount of sunlight in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

What that means for us here at the Hammer is football (on our tv), fire pits (on our patio), and pumpkin spice lattes (at Jazzman’s)! It also means a very busy schedule here at the Hammer. As always, look out for Easter Egg links in the text below! This week, we have:

Monday, Sept. 18th

  • 9-10:30pm: SA hosts an Ice Cream Social out on the back/eastside patio of the Hammer. Enjoy live music, friends, and free ice cream!!

Tuesday, Sept. 19th

  • 1-4pm: ORU Career Services presents Jobzology Training, up in the Fenimore Room. Come and take your career preparation to the next level! Earn 2 PDPs!
  • 7-9pm: Karaoke returns to the TV Room of the Hammer! Take a study stop and sing your little heart out as a solo or duet and impress your friends! (Or bring them up to sing with you so they can’t laugh…) 😉

Wednesday, Sept. 20th

  • 2:30-5:30pm: Career Services continues to help you prep for your future with a LinkedIn Training Session led by our own business professor, Dr. David Burkus, in the Fenimore Room. Learn to effectively navigate the popular professional networking website while you earn 2 PDPs!

Thursday, Sept. 21st

  • 7-9pm: The Theological Society will be meeting upstairs in the Fenimore Room. This club is not just for Bible/Theology/Ministry majors, but anyone who wants to delve more deeply into Christian thought!

Friday, Sept. 22nd

  • 7:15-8:15pm: Come to the Fenimore Room and check out the 3rd annual Business Plan Competition Information Session, sponsored by Enactus! This competition is designed to give ORU students a real-world, entrepreneurial experience where they learn the requirements for successfully launching a new business. This competition is open to all ORU students, not just Business Majors! There will be giveaways and refreshments for those who attend.

Saturday, Sept. 23rd

  • 8-10pm: Have you got a talent you’ve been dying to share with the ORU community, in a fun and supportive environment? Or would you just like some free entertainment for the evening? (Even cheaper than the dollar theater!) Then join us for our inaugural Saturday Night Live event in the TV Room! The ORU Hammer Center is collaborating with Freestyle Friday to host this open mic style event. Sign up at the Hammer’s Front Desk this week (in advance of the event) to secure your spot to share your (clean) song, instrumental, skit, dance, rap, comedy routine, or circus sideshow event! (No lions allowed, sorry…)

Sunday, Sept. 24th

  • 10:45am: Go to church
  • 1pm: Go to Saga and eat a huge omelette
  • 2pm: Sleep all day  zzzzzz….. 😉
